ENERGY POLICY: MEETING THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC NEEDS OF THE UNITED STATES

ABSTRACT: The next administration of the United States of America will undertake the responsibility of ensuring safe, affordable, reliable and sustainable provision of energy for the country: a critical component of the economic and environmental health and security of the nation. This policy portfolio involves addressing critical deficiencies in the current energy policy and prioritizing several urgent initiatives. The Situation Brief, will discuss five critical realties of our national energy system. The Policy Options will state the broad objectives within which the energy policy of the united states is framed, namely, security and resiliency, economic competitiveness and environmental responsibility. Following this, the paper will recommend four main strategies for the new government to implement: modernization of energy infrastructure should be prioritized, increase federal investment in new and advanced energy technologies, carbon constraints in the economy and sector specific policies
